Creating a checkbox problem with partial credit

Created by Boris Chekaev, Modified on Thu, 11 Aug 2022 at 05:15 AM by Boris Chekaev

In a checkbox problem, learners select multiple options from a list of answer options.

By default, if the trainee hits all the correct options in a checkbox problem, the trainee is given full credit for the problem. If the trainee hits at least one incorrect option in a checkbox problem, the trainee is given zero credit for the problem.

To change the zero-or-full credit behavior, you need to switch the problem to the partial credit type.

How-to

1. Log in to SIT Alemira Studio.

2. Navigate to your course.

3. Open the subsection where you would like to add the problem with partial credit.

4. Click + New Unit.

5. Select Problem.

6. Select Checkboxes.

7. Click EDIT.

8. Use the built-in markdown to create your question.

Example:

>>What color is a red apple?<<
[ ] Yellow
[x] Scarlet
[x] Carmine

9. Click Advanced Editor and confirm in the pop-up window that you understand the code will be converted from Markdown to XML. Your quiz Markdown code will be converted to XML:

<choiceresponse>
<h3 class="hd hd-2 problem-header">What color is a red apple?</h3>
<checkboxgroup>
<choice correct="false">Yellow</choice>
<choice correct="true">Scarlet</choice>
<choice correct="true">Carmine</choice>
</checkboxgroup>
</choiceresponse>

10. Now enable partial credit to the quiz by adding partial_credit="EDC" to the <choiceresponse> tag:

<choiceresponse partial_credit="EDC">
<h3 class="hd hd-2 problem-header">What color is a red apple?</h3>
<checkboxgroup>
<choice correct="false">Yellow</choice>
<choice correct="true">Scarlet</choice>
<choice correct="true">Carmine</choice>
</checkboxgroup>
</choiceresponse>

You have now converted your default checkbox quiz to the checkbox quiz with partial credit.
